CHARTER FOR A HOLISTIC AND ETHICAL PATIENTCARE AND THE PROMOTION OF A GLOBAL AND SUSTAINABLE HEALTH
The increasing number of diseases and the general lack of well-being around the world is a worrying phenomenon and a major, unprecedented public health issue. Thus, we, as health professionals from diverse backgrounds, are committed in promoting integrative, holistic health. That is to say, a person-centered approach, which regards the patient as a whole and seeks to offer the best out of the various disciplines, in a coordinated and collective manner.
We wish to elaborate on mutual learning and aid, as well as the sharing of life-changing experiences. To achieve this, we encourage a multidisciplinary dialogue and joint actions that meet the needs of the patient, ensuring that all levels of one´s well-being (physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, professional, environmental) are taken into consideration, respected and integrated, with the ultimate goal to improve knowledge and practices that promote and restore health.
In line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, we want to reiterate our commitment to support Goals 3 (Health) and 4 (Education) by making partnerships a priority, in order to strengthen health structures. We believe that the time has come to break down borders and unite our forces.
We are convinced that, thanks to this, we will contribute to:
- Recognize the needs, issues and challenges we face
- Serve the person in his entirety, his uniqueness and according to his background
- Foster the person’s autonomy, discernment and responsibility
- Improve quality of life and well-being around the world
- Create an international platform for exchange and reconciliation
By signing this charter, we, healthcare professionals and practitioners, commit to place the needs of the patient and one´s well-being at the heart of our priorities and to endorse the spirit of this charter in our daily working environment, in our communities, our country and beyond.
